The Other Woman

It’s been a good day, well spent.. a huge dent in the wallet but what the heck.. it was a day well spent. You decide to take a walk back home, a smile on your face, a certain irritating song that won’t leave your mind but you whistle along nonetheless and have a slight spring in your step. Then it happens. Your heart misses a beat. Not the way it does when you see him but in a way that leaves you feeling nauseous, like you just got punched in the stomach. For a split second you wonder if this is how a heart attack begins. With a missing heartbeat, then two and after a while no heartbeat at all.

The romance of scars and scabs

I'm not a fan of anything classified even remotely as romantic: not in the traditional sense and most certainly not in any interpretation given reference to under modern thought and meaning. I don't read the books or listen to the music and it's more than once that I've dozed through a movie which presented an usually persistent exchange of oral fluid. ver mind my particular aversion to chocolate and the fact that flowers can have me in bed for a week as the result of an allergic reaction. Cheesy violin music and intense looks that last up to twenty minutes at a time could only be irritating to someone such as myself who's entire CD collection is introduced by song titles like "If you don't love me, lie to me." and "Heartbreak Hotel".

The Test

Richard Mbuthia writes on his emotional experience on taking an HIV/AIDS test before his wedding.
My head was spinning. My mate was going through the same motions. When our names were called out we jumped up in unison almost leaving our hearts on the seats! The counsellor, with two spring files in her hands, led the way into her office. We followed suit, our steps almost faltering. Once inside the office, she asked us to be seated. With a disarming smile playing on her lips, she told us that she had the results.

Taxi Please?

I am a woman. I love being a woman and I would like to be treated and appreciated as a woman. I may be independent, but for crying out loud what happened to the generation of men that made a woman feel like one? I may have my own house and car, but it really disgusts me when a man comes up to me and asks me to buy him lunch, phone credit or a new shirt! It is especially annoying when a man flashes me over and over again expecting me to call him back and all that he asks is that “So.. can I come to your place for tea?” Men, style up please! This is reason some of us ‘independent women’ refuse to be engaged in any form of relationship or marriage.

Charity Kivuli gives an interesting account on a date gone bad. Read the rest here.

The dynamics of "love"

Love is everywhere: the airwaves (radio & TV music), cyberspace, magazines, books, and one-on-one encounters. It is simply everywhere. I started hearing the 'love' phrase when I was an adolescent.

Richard Mbuthia on the meaning and worth of true romantic love . Read the rest here.

Beauty is skin deep

Appearance is a very large determining factor when choosing a mate. But how effective is it in choosing the right mate. Many of us discover that we often lose out when we use that as a criteria. I have met a man. I had just come out of a bad relationship.

Wambani writes on relationships and physical appearance, to the rest of the world. Read the rest here.

Feigned Courtship: A Lady's Woe

I am miffed by the way some men treat ladies. Some men take advantage of the 'men-are-as-old-as-they-think; women-are-as-old-as-they-look' saying.

They 'know' that looks, to women, are like shells to snails, who will go to great lengths to preserve their youth (at least for their 'prince charming'!).

You still don't get the drift of this piece. Let me explain.

Richard Mbuthia urges men to be honest about their intent in romantic relationships with women. Read more here.

Soothing the Creases of Loneliness

"Somebody" remarked to me last month that we, modern people, throw sex around too much. However grammatically incorrect this ‘terminological inexactitude' is; the truth behind it was undeniable. It is no thing at all for two people to meet, in a club, at the zoo, or while snorkeling, and end up boot-knocking, bed-rocking, waxing it and rubbing down in less than half an hour.

In fact it's probably more of a surprise to hear that a couple has been dating 3 months and have not in fact done the dirty deed.

Read more as Chiedza Mangiza discusses, " Whichever way it goes, for men and women, sex can cause a false sense of intimacy. And that's the real danger of easy sex (plus all those nasty VDs)."
